Outerbridge Music

Hey there!

Do you want singing to feel easier?

Maybe your voice isn’t sounding the way it used to, or it isn’t doing the things you know it can!

Or maybe you are one of the millions of people who have yet to realize that singing is a skill that can be developed, just like golf, juggling, or flipping an omelet perfectly without it all falling out on the stove, creating a huge mess (I'm still working on that one).

You have a beautiful voice (yes, even you!), and with quality instruction and dedicated practice, you’ll discover the potential that you didn’t know was there!

My Story

I’m Cay: a voice teacher, choral conductor, vocal arranger, learning track producer, barbershop harmony singer, and lifelong learner. I've always loved singing, particularly in group settings, but improvement seemed to happen by chance. I worked hard, but I didn't feel I had any control over how my voice developed.

In 2020, I had some extra time on my hands and a few folks had asked for singing lessons. I figured it was time to figure out what the heck is going on in our bodies when we make these pretty sounds. I read every book I could get my hands on and attended countless conferences and certification programs. This not only gave me the ability to facilitate positive vocal changes in my students but drastically improved my own voice, giving me agency in my vocal development. As I learn more and more about voice, I’m inspired by new scientific research and new innovative approaches to teaching voice. Along the way, I've developed a deep functional and anatomical understanding of the voice and a science-informed approach to developing flexibility, efficiency, and ultimately, artistry.

“The more we know about the human voice and how it functions, the better we shall be able to use it to its fullest as a means of expression.” - David Blair McClosky

One of my biggest influences is The McClosky Technique. This technique emphasizes the importance of posture, breathing, and relaxation of extrinsic musculature for vocal freedom. Through concrete physical awareness and actions, we are able to develop new habits of vocal production that make singing easier, more flexible, and more sustainable. The broader my knowledge base becomes, the more I am drawn to the simple, core components of vocal production and the universally accessible McCloksy approach.

Above all, I am in service to you: your goals, your aesthetic preference, and your unique, beautiful voice. We will draw from whatever pedagogical approach is necessary to achieve your goals. We do a lot of different stuff in my voice studio! From ear training to range extension, from performance coaching to healthy voice habilitation, every student is unique, and your training should reflect that.
